Understanding Audio Visual Performances

About a year ago, I started carefully evaluating the different things that we needed to do in regards to our audio visual performances. I was in charge of creating presentations for the school, and it was a lot harder than I had initially anticipated. Fortunately, a friend of mine helped me to understand what I was doing wrong, and it made a big difference. Within a few short months I was making better progress, and I was really happy with the difference it made in my life. This blog is all about understanding audio visual performances and making things easier.

How To Place Your Home Theater's Speakers

Alyssa Gutierrez

Have you finally decided to upgrade your home theater and install surround sound? If so, you may be running into the challenge of where to put the speakers in your room. While there is such a thing as the perfect surround sound speaker setup, it may not be possible due to your room's shape and how it is arranged. Here are some tips for placing these speakers

Center Speaker

Your center speaker is where you are going to be hearing all of the dialogue from your television, and its placement is quite simple. Try to place the speaker as close to the center of the TV as possible. This means that the speaker may have to go in a cabinet or mounted directly above or below your television set if it is wall mounted. You can buy an arm that attached to your TV, which will allow you to place the center speaker in the ideal position.

Front Speakers

You'll need to find a location for your front speakers, but it can be difficult getting them in the right place. Consider mounting these speakers in the wall that surrounds your television set to get them out of the way and placed at the right height. With some creative engineering, it is actually possible to cut a hole in the wall between the studs and mount your front left and front right speakers in them. Hide the hole with a mesh cover, and you'll have the speakers right where you want them without the mess.

Rear Surround Speakers

The challenge of placing rear surround speakers is getting them to face you since many people have couches pushed up against a wall. Consider pulling your couch away from the wall slightly, then mount the surround speakers on stands. You can rotate those speakers to face where you are sitting on the couch to give yourself the perfect directional surround sound from the speakers.

Subwoofer

The nice thing about the subwoofer is that it can go almost anywhere in the room. Consider placing it behind the couch as well so that you can pump up the base and feel it where you are sitting. Another possible place is in the corner of a room since the low-frequency sounds will bounce off the walls to reach you. A subwoofer can even be placed on a shelf in your entertainment center or on a bookshelf if necessary.
